As we reach the end of the academic year, governors would like to express our sincere appreciation for the hard work, commitment and support shown by staff, students and parents/carers throughout the year.
We are also pleased to report that we will have a full complement of committed governors, representing a wide cross-section of ages, backgrounds, knowledge, skills and experience.
Governor activity and impact
This year, governors have made over 20 visits to the academy, focusing on academic outcomes, safeguarding, special educational needs, assemblies, behaviour, attendance, staff meetings, parent/carer meetings and discussions with academy leaders.
These visits are discussed at the twice-termly Academy Committee meetings and help ensure that governors are able to offer supportive challenge to academy leadership. This work is important in helping to make sure that all students are given the best possible life chances and are supported to achieve to the best of their ability.
Celebrating success
Staff are the academy’s most valuable asset. They continue to give generously of their time beyond the school day, offering a wide range of trips, clubs and after-school activities, including sports fixtures, some of which take staff away from their families for several days at a time.
Once again, performing arts put on an amazing production. This year’s show was Chicago, involving so many staff and students and demonstrating excellence through teamwork, with students of all abilities taking part.
We know that each faculty and department takes great pride in what they do. A wonderful example of this was the MADE IT exhibition, which showcased the progress of students across the years through art, design and technology.
Concerns, complaints and reflection
Governors take concerns and complaints very seriously and do their best to investigate and report in a fair and transparent manner. We always look carefully to identify any learning from these situations.
We also meet annually to reflect on our work as governors and to identify ways in which we can improve.
Community links and future priorities
Next academic year we are committed to building realistic links with the community served by the academy. This will include engaging with parents/carers, former students, local businesses and community groups. Our aim is to explore opportunities for students to learn more about the world of work, support specific projects and celebrate the achievements of students.
Results days
We wish all year 11 and year 13 students the very best for results day and for their future careers.

A personal message
Finally, this will be my last report, as after 11 years I am leaving the governing body. It has been an honour and a privilege to contribute to such a successful academy, which places the development of character as highly as the achievement of great results for each individual student.
Over the past year, arrangements have been put in place which have resulted in a very capable new Chair in Beckie Henderson.
I wish everyone associated with Tuxford Academy every success in the future.
