Tuxford Academy eco club students have been on a mission to help reduce waste by collecting used pens which would otherwise end up in landfill.
Since November students and staff have been recycled pens and members of the eco club collected these pens from the classrooms in the last week of term. The pens were given to a local stationery store to be recycled. The students collected over 6 kilos – which around the same weight as a bowling ball!
Once the pens have been received for recycling, they are cleaned and separated into different materials, then the plastic is melted down and used to make new products. By recycling pens and markers, students and staff are helping to minimise the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfill.
Well done to the eco club and to all involved.
