Last November the Academy lost a much loved member of staff, our school gardener, Alan Hardy.

Today staff and students planted memorial plants in his memory. The plants have been purchased with the funds raised from our charity day.

Mr Hardy taught students how to plant and grow produce, care for plants, spot wildlife and even how to safely build garden structures using tools. He also supported students who struggled in the classroom but would happily work in the gardens with him. Other students who were interested in gardening loved to join him during their morning break and lunchtime, and they formed the Gardening Club.

Students and staff planted a beautiful peony plant and a magnolia tree in his memory, overseen by Mrs Heather Hardy, Mr Hardy’s wife. It was fitting to plant these in the school garden where Mr Hardy loved to work. He is very much missed by staff and students at the Academy.
