We are delighted to celebrate the success of our year 9 students who recently took part in young writers – I have a dream, a national poetry competition that gives young writers the opportunity to showcase their creativity and, if successful, have their work published in a professionally produced book.
This year, 18 Tuxford Academy students submitted poems inspired by their dreams for the future, demonstrating imagination, originality and a real passion for language. Of these, 10 students had their work published in the competition publication, following an invitation.
Having work selected for publication is a fantastic achievement and reflects the effort, creativity and dedication our students have shown throughout the writing process. The competition encouraged students to experiment with language, express their ideas and develop their confidence as writers, all while competing alongside young people from schools across the country.
At Tuxford Academy, we believe literacy is at the heart of success across all subjects and beyond the classroom. Reading and writing help students develop critical thinking, communication skills and creativity, while also providing a powerful means of self-expression. Opportunities such as this poetry competition allow students to put those skills into practice and see the real-world impact of their work.
We are incredibly proud of every student who entered the competition. Sharing your writing takes courage, and the quality of the submissions received was a testament to the talent and enthusiasm of our young writers.
Congratulations to all the students whose work was selected and published. We look forward to seeing where their writing journeys take them next.

“Poetry gives young people a voice, allowing them to share their experiences, ideas and imagination with others. We are incredibly proud of all of our students who embraced this opportunity and achieved such fantastic success.”
