From September 2019 we will be amending the timings to the academy day.  In 2019-20, the day will start at 8.40am and finish at 3.25pm.

This year we have been trialling a split lunch to improve the experience for our pupils. As the end of the year approaches, we have been asking pupils and parents to provide feedback about the new system:

  • 71% of pupils stated that we should continue with the system with some adjustments
  • 68% of pupils stated that lunch was calmer and a more relaxed experience
  • 63% of pupils stated that it was quicker to get their food
  • 79% of pupils stated that they would like more time at lunch to be with their friends and to attend clubs

Feedback from parents was mixed, with key stage 3 parents being more in favour of the split lunch than key stage 4 parents.  A high percentage of parents feel that the shorter lunch is having an impact on their child’s opportunity to socialise and attend clubs.

To address the feedback, we will increase unstructured time for pupils, adding 5 minutes to break in the morning and 5 minutes to the key stage 3 and key stage 4 lunch.  We will also add 5 minutes’ movement time between period 6 and Learning Time, allowing tutors longer to complete personal development activities.  The changes will have no impact on curriculum time.  If you would like to, you can see the timings of the day for key stage 3 and key stage 4 lunch here.

The local authority and bus companies have been notified of our intention to change the timings of the day.

Thank you for your ongoing support through this academic year.
