On Saturday 9 May, Tuxford Academy students and staff took part in a wonderful evening of music, song and hope at St Andrew’s Church, Eakring in aid of the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Three Tuxford students took part in the Music for Life concert. Sophia in year 11 played the violin exquisitely, wowing the audience with a beautiful rendition of Massenet’s Meditation from Thais. Stan and Aneliia, both in year 8, played traditional Ukrainian themed piano solos, having taken up the piano last year at the beginning of year 7.
Stan played Carol of the Bells whilst Aneliia performed The Blue Danube and both delighted the audience with their skill, bravery and musicality. Their stories from life in the Ukraine to arriving here in the UK were also featured as part of the concert.
Several Tuxford staff and students also attended and their support and encouragement was very much appreciated. A beautiful Ukrainian flag gifted to the Mrs Trippett and the school was also featured as part of the concert. The flag has been signed by military personnel of the Ukrainian Naval division.
The concert is now planned to be an annual event, so we hope to be involved again next year. Special thanks go to Mrs Walster, our amazing school piano and singing teacher, as she helped prepare Stan and Aneliia brilliantly for their first public performance.
The concert was a thoroughly enjoyable Saturday evening! Thank you to all involved.
