On Wednesday 3 December, three Tuxford Academy post 16 students, Ed,Anna and Ben were invited by the team at Network Rail Test Tracks to High Marnham, for the Network Rail Five Hydrogen Firsts event.  This joint event saw partners from across the transport and energy industries launch a series of UK firsts in the distribution and deployment of hydrogen and associated technologies on Britain’s railways, all focused at Test Tracks Tuxford.

The event comprised the following UK firsts:

  • 1st hydrogen by rail freight move.
  • 1st hydrogen-powered shunter locomotive.
  • 1st rail-connected green hydrogen facility.
  • 1st rail hydrogen innovation zone.
  • 1st Net Zero rail test facility.

The students have been gaining valuable experience at Network Rail, with Ed and Anna helping to organise the event behind the scenes.

The Hydrogen Firsts event served to shine a spotlight on the future development of hydrogen powered trains and depots and was attended by representatives from Network Rail and other rail infrastructure companies.

It was a great opportunity for Anna, Ed and Ben to network within the Engineering industry.
