The Trustees from the Diverse Academies Trust visited Tuxford Academy today. They review the performance of all fourteen academies in the trust. As part of their role, they also look at standards and outcomes across all schools.
The Trustees, including Mr Schwarz, (chair), Mr Simpson (ex-teacher at Tuxford) and Mrs Mordue were accompanied by the Diverse Academies Trust CEO, Mr Cotton, and Tuxford Academy Principal, Mr Hardy. Chair of governors, Mr Lancaster, and governor, Mrs Henderson also joined the visit.
The Trustees were pleased to gain a sense of what it’s like in school by visiting classes and talking to students and teachers. They visited lessons to witness the ‘strong starts to lessons’ techniques being adopted across all faculties.
They also took time to visit the Eco Club garden where they chatted to Mr Hazelhurst and students Rory, Y10, and Eva, Y9, about the club and their plans for the future. Mr Hazelhurst discussed the various flowers, fruit and vegetables being grown in the school garden including nasturtiums, French marigolds, strawberries, potatoes and lettuce.
The club has been hard at work since September, bringing the garden back to life and planting seedlings. Mr Hazelhurst explained that despite being a Computer Science teacher, he has a passion for growing things, which was passed on to him as a child by his father, grandfather and uncle who all had vegetable and flower gardens.
The students said that they enjoyed contributing to the school garden and regularly stay after school to help with sowing seeds, watering plants and vegetables and tidying the area.
Mr Hazelhurst explained that the Eco Club is considering fundraising in school during charity days and also selling produce to staff at certain times of year. The Trustees were complimentary about the hard work that goes into maintaining the garden and shared ideas to develop the garden area in the future.
