We are pleased to announce that the first cohort of students to complete the Tuxford Award have successfully achieved their Rookie Award this half term. Students were formally presented with their Rookie certificates and badges during rewards assemblies by Hannah, a post 16 student and the Tuxford Award President.
The Tuxford Award is our reward programme designed to celebrate and encourage learning beyond the classroom. The Tuxford Award gives students the opportunity to develop their character, contribute positively to their communities, and grow their confidence and resilience.
As part of celebrating the first cohort of Tuxford Award Rookies, we are proud to share the stories of two students who successfully achieved their Rookie Award.
Student bios:
Name: Bertie
Activities
Volunteering: helping at year 6 open evening in the science department,
Physical: tennis lessons
Skill: golf lessons, Leadership: Tennis leadership course at Caunton.
What I enjoyed about the Award: I really all the sections but especially the tennis leadership course because I learned how to be a coach and help other people improve their skills. I have already starting working towards my pro level next which I’m aiming to get by the end of the year.
Name: Winnie
Activities
Volunteering: helped take down all the Christmas lights in my village
Physical: Tennis,
Skill: Guides
Leadership: designed and presented a history lesson on the history of Christmas
What I enjoyed about the award: I liked how I could build on what I was already doing to earn my award. It’s important to try new things but getting better at something you already do is good too.
The Tuxford Award is designed for students in Years 7 and 8. All students are encouraged to take part, with the aim of rising through the ranks of Rookie, Pro and Elite by the end of year 9. For more information about the award, please visit the school website.
Congratulations to Bertie, Sam, Winnie and Francesca (pictured) and all our Tuxford Rookies. We look forward to seeing many more students progress through the Tuxford Award in the months ahead.
