This week, we are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week and the links we have at Tuxford Academy with local businesses and organisations.
We are excited to spotlight Ed, a year 13 student, who has been gaining valuable experience with Network Rail since January 2025. Ed visits Network Rail every Thursday, and has gained a vast range of technical skills including using a track geometry gauge, using a side wear gauge to measure wear and carrying out general track inspections. Ed recently gave assemblies to year groups across school outlining the work experience and opportunities he has had with Network Rail to inspire others.
Last year, Ed attended the Network Rail Five Hydrogen Firsts event with two post 16 students Anna and Ben. The joint event saw partners from across the transport and energy industries launch the first hydrogen powered rail vehicle, the first hydrogen re-fueling station and the first hydrogen powered freight at Test Tracks, Tuxford; a momentous moment for the rail industry.
Ed said, ‘In the future I hope to be able to do a level 6 degree apprenticeship with Network Rail. I would like to do this because I already have some knowledge and lots of previous experience with Network Rail, and this is something I am very interested in.’
Thank you to the team at Network Rail, Tuxford for enabling our students to gain such valuable industry knowledge.
