On Tuesday, our Eco Club spent some time carving their own pumpkins! The pumpkins have been grown in our school garden along with a host of other vegetables and plants.
At Tuxford Academy, the Eco Club is dedicated to making a difference—whether through planting trees, reducing waste, or protecting local wildlife. They work on various biodiversity projects throughout the year.
Last year, Eco club built and painted a new seeding bench to support their ongoing sustainability projects. The young environmentalists spent their time constructing the bench from reclaimed materials to brighten up the school’s green space. The project aimed to provide a dedicated area for growing plants from seeds, allowing students to nurture seedlings before they are transplanted into the school’s garden beds. Mr Hazelhurst also put up a full-sized polytunnel on school grounds last year to create a protected environment for plants to grow all year round.
The new facilities in the garden have enabled the Eco Club students to produce an impressive crop of pumpkins, and the group had a lot of fun carving their creations this week!
Eco club is on Tuesdays after school 3.15-4.15pm in IB2/Garden and is open to all year groups.
