Transition 2020 frequently asked questions

In This Section

Will transition week still take place for year 6 students as planned in early July?

Unfortunately we are not able to offer a transition week this year.

With the inability to offer this transition period, we realise some children will be worried by the thought of starting a new school they perhaps haven’t visited and will have many questions about what to expect. To help, we are sharing as much information as we can to try and make the transiiton a little bit easier, in addition, we are allowing for a transition period when they join us.

In their first few days, we will ensure new year 7 know their way round the academy, are introduced to class and tutor groups, receive information such as their timetable, timings of the schools day, where to go for lunch and give them an opportunity to meet pupils and staff to ask any questions they may have.

To further support pupils transition, we have been adding information to this dedicated transition page.

How do I purchase school uniform?

Unfortunately, due to the school closure we are unable to confirm any potential dates for uniform pop-up shops at the academy. We therefore advise parents to purchase the required uniform online from our suppliers, at your earliest opportunity to ensure stocks are available.

Sizing information is available on the supplier’s website. Please ensure you select delivery to your home address and not school as we are currently unable to accept uniform deliveries and the supplier will not attempt to deliver them to us.

As students have not yet been informed which college they are in, please do not buy a college tie when you place your online order. We have ordered stocks into school and we will sell the ties to students on their first day. Please send your child with £6 to purchase their tie on their first day.

You can find further details on where to buy uniform here.

How do I find out about buses and transport to and from the academy?

You can find out more information about transport here.

If your child will be travelling by bus, application forms are available from www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk  Please note it is advisable to apply for this pass early.

Please note – the bus service that commences in Edwinstowe (36a) and the service to Sturton-le-Steeple and North Wheatley (730) are arranged by the academy. Passes are purchased through our online payment system, Scopay, which cannot be done until your child starts. Temporary passes are issued to cover the interim period.

What are the term dates?

Assuming the school is fully re-opened by September, the first day for the new year 7 will be Wednesday 2 September.

Please be aware that should restrictions still be in place, information regarding the opening of the school will be posted on this page.

You can see all term dates here.

Will my child need money for school meals?

The school operates a cashless payment system called sQuid. Until the students have been registered for this system, in the academy, they will need some cash to pay for school meals, unless they are entitled to free school meals.

We are usually able to post out the unique student code required to create an sQuid account for your child, during their first 10-14 days at the academy.

How will I be informed of any changes due to the current pandemic?

Information will be posted on the academy website and this page will have specific information regarding the year 6 transition process.

We will also be using software called Weduc to keep in contact with parents and carers. Please ensure you include an email address on the data collection sheet you will be asked to return to the academy in the welcome pack so that we are able to send you a username to access the software.

Who do I contact if I have further questions?

Please email any questions or queries to parents@tuxford-ac.org.uk and they will be forwarded to the relevant member of staff to get back to you.
