If you believe you have the skills, qualities and attributes needed to choose a career in either one of the armed forces or one of the emergency services, then this course will prepare you for the discipline and hard work needed in these demanding careers. You will also get the opportunity to take part in discussions with people employed in various roles within the public services.

This course, which is the equivalent to one A Level if you achieve a distinction grade, mixes classroom work with practical tasks and challenges. You will also get the opportunity to take part in organised outdoor activities to test your endurance levels, how you operate under pressure, as well as helping you to develop practical skills such as map reading and navigation.
The course covers the following subjects:
- government and policies
- leadership and teamwork in public services
- citizenship, diversity and the public services
- discipline within the public services
- health and fitness
You will deliver written assignments throughout the course – using a combination of essays and group presentation tasks. You will also be observed and appraised by your tutor and peers, particularly in relation to practical tasks. As part of the course, you will be taught how to reference and how to present your work.
