Course specification

This course uses a combination of assessment styles to give students confidence that they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout their career.

“When I read about the applied science BTEC I knew this was for me and I was excited to take the course.”

– Student

The range of vocational assessments – both practical and written – means students can showcase their learning and achievements to best effect when they take their next step, whether that’s supporting applications to higher education courses or potential employers.

In year 12, students will be assessed on two components of the course. The first is an internally assessed assignment, the second is an externally assessed written exam. This will complete the certificate.

In year 13, students will complete a science investigation skills component as well as one optional unit. This will complete the extended certificate.

What doors will this open up for me?

The BTEC in applied science is designed to meet the needs of employers and higher education, so learners have the option of progressing straight into the work environment or choosing to continue their studies in higher education.
