A great deal goes into our meals to make sure they taste good, they’re healthy and most of all that they meet the requirements of our most demanding customers – our students!

All of our menus meet the Government’s national nutritional requirements and provide students with healthy, freshly cooked meals. Vegetarian options are available and menus can even be tailored to meet medical dietary requirements.

Nottinghamshire County Council provide our menus, and their latest main menu can be viewed here:

Tuxford Academy menu

At Tuxford, students are able to buy their lunch in two locations: The Canteen, which offers hot meals and puddings, as well as sandwiches, jacket potatoes and soups, or in our Clumber Café where we offer hot and cold snacks such as paninis and sandwiches.

Paying for meals

We operate a cashless catering system called sQuid, which enables students to pay for their meals using a fingerprint and offers the following benefits to parents:

  • paying for meals without having to write cheques or send cash
  • online payment system for topping up sQuid account credits
  • the ability to store card details
  • simple, online customer portal
  • availability of transaction history
  • emails with payment confirmation and account updates
  • dedicated customer service team

To find out more about sQuid, please visit the online payments page.

Students eligible for free school meals will have money added each day. To find out about eligibility for free school meals, please click here.

Post 16 refectory

Post 16 students have their own kitchen and dining facilities upstairs. They can either use sQuid, or pay for their food in cash. Again, any students eligible for free school meals will have money automatically added to their sQuid account each day.

Free school meals

We know that having a nutritious meal during the school day is important for children’s health, wellbeing and learning – and we want to ensure that all children who are eligible for free school meals benefit from this scheme.

Your child may be able to receive free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If you think that your child(ren) may be entitled to free school meals then you can either apply online or download a form via the Nottinghamshire County Council website here, or phone them on 0300 500 80 80.

Once your application has been approved, the council will inform the academy and we can then start providing free school meals for your child(ren). We treat all recipients with complete discretion.

We are here to help, so contact us if you have any queries or concerns you would like to discuss directly with the academy.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, your local food bank can help. To arrange a food voucher for your family, visit Newark Foodbank or for further support contact the academy(opens in new tab) to talk to someone in confidence.
