Our key stage 3 chess club meets on Thursday lunchtimes and is run by Miss Tivey and Ruby from year 12.
The students enjoy getting together, socialising in a different environment and learning more about chess. Some students are beginners and others have been playing chess for a few years. Learning chess has been proven to help students improve critical thinking, focus and patience.
The students have recently been taking part in the Tuxford Chess Tournament. We are happy to announce that the overall winner of the tournament was Andre, year 7 and Amelia, year 8 won the Most Helpful award.

Fifth place – Isacc
The winning college was Willow College. Students will be rewarded with Character awards. Well done to you all!
At this week’s meeting Ruby also gave an informative presentation about women in chess as it was International Women’s Day yesterday. Apparently Elizabeth the first was a gifted chess player! Next the chess club have signed up to take part in the prestigious Delancey UK Chess Tournament, one of the largest junior chess tournaments in the world. Good luck to all of you!
